The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs

Horror hosts have become something of a lost art form, despite being a staple for decades.  The format is probably archaic in the day of streaming, but way back in the day they were the most entertaining nights for genre fans.  Imagine tuning in to see a movie you enjoy and seeing the station's local personality providing amusing anecdotes about it during the normally boring commercial break.  You'd fall in love with this character who was watching the movie with you and you'd tune in next week, maybe for a movie you had never seen, just to see that person again.  Maybe you'd love the movie, maybe you'd hate it, but you'd stay beginning to end just to hear what they have to say.

Most cult lovers my age have their favorites, from Elvira to Svengoolie.  Growing up my two main horror hosts were Mike Nelson on Sci-Fi's MST3K and Joe Bob Briggs on TNT's MonsterVision.  When I started writing my reviews for MST3K it was in celebration of the show's return after a successful Kickstarter campaign.  Since then, Joe Bob Briggs has also been brought back into the spotlight on the streaming service Shudder, and I started pondering if I should celebrate that with a little Joe Bob section on my blog.  Joe Bob's format isn't riffing, but I have so much love for him that I feel like he's earned a spot here.  And really, this is my blog, and I'll do what I want.  Bite me.

Note:  A few of these movies have already been pulled from Shudder's line-up before I started this.  Unfortunately I can't review all of them, but I'll do what I can.
