One thing any MSTie should have in their heart is a love of movies. Not just good cinema, but if one doesn't have an appreciation for the misfires, one only appreciates half of what Mystery Science Theater 3000 has to offer. There are many out there who only want to see the finest cinema has to offer and bask in it. They can do what they want. Speaking for myself, personally, I want to see everything. I want to see what people can make. I want to see what people can do. And even if it's a spectacular failure, I want to look into a movie's heart and see what it's trying to accomplish, even if you'll forgive me for being snarky about it. I am a MSTie, after all.
Most people see cinema as an art gallery. I see cinema as a playground. I want to play on everything, ride each slide, experience each part of it, go from one part to something entirely different. I want difference in genre, style, and yes, even quality. To just concentrate on one thing is boring.
And thus, here is a new part of my blog, called My Cinema Playground. Here I offer small blurbs of the new films I get to see every week, while also offering up a new project called Oscar Bait & Switch, where I go through every Academy Award winner and contrast with the popular films of each year.
