Rifftrax Year: 2015
Riffers: Bridget Nelson, Mary Jo Pehl (guest voice: Kevin Murphy)
Bridget and Mary Jo squeal with a girlish glee upon the realization that the short they're watching today is what they refer to as a "period piece," in other words that dreaded "other film" the girls saw in the classroom down the hall. Naturally...a Girl is about...um...things that happen...you know...down there. There are certain things about a woman blossoming that the boys will enjoy. This is not one of them.
It's informative and educational. It has interviews with various girls discussing menstruation diversity and how it's not the same for every girl. For some reason there are a few interviews with boys too. I have no clue why. There are also a lot of diagram shots of certain lady parts. I almost feel like a dirty old man listening to all these young girls talking about their vaginas. I could say I only watched it because it was on a comedy website, but most people still might not take that as an excuse.
Bridget and Mary Jo act like a couple of gossiping teenage girls throughout this short. They giggle and get giddy at various points as they get a short that women would understand far more than men. Mike, Kevin, and Bill would have been out of luck riffing this, but Bridget and Mary Jo are game for it, understand it, and aren't afraid of it. They're chipper and excited about the subject, but they don't forget to riff the production either...
"I used to dream of being an actress..."
"...but now I'm in menstrual films!"
Like most of Bridget and Mary Jo's work, Naturally...a Girl is an easy recommend for me. The only thing I thing the consumer should beware of is its subject matter, which might make certain viewers uncomfortable. Those who are willing to listen to this talk of "that time of the month" will get some hearty laughs at its expense.
Thumbs Up
